Healthcare providers were struggling with a legacy system that presented patient data in dense, overwhelming tables. Critical information was buried, leading to slower decision-making and increased cognitive load during high-pressure situations.
The challenge was to redesign the interface to surface the most important information first while maintaining access to detailed data when needed.
Conducted interviews with nurses, doctors, and administrators to understand their workflows and pain points. Observed actual usage patterns during shifts to identify critical data touchpoints.
Restructured the data hierarchy based on frequency of use and urgency. Created clear visual zones for vital signs, medications, and patient history.
Developed a clean interface with strong typographic hierarchy. Used color sparingly and purposefully to indicate status and priority. Ensured accessibility standards were met for use in various lighting conditions.
Created a main view that displays critical patient vitals at a glance with clear visual indicators for abnormal values. Secondary information is accessible through clearly labeled sections.
Ensured the interface works seamlessly across devices, from desktop workstations to tablets used during rounds. The layout adapts intelligently to maintain usability at any screen size.
Integrated common tasks directly into the dashboard to reduce clicks and navigation time for frequent actions like updating vitals or viewing medication schedules.
The redesigned dashboard significantly improved workflow efficiency and received positive feedback from healthcare providers during testing phases.
The clear visual hierarchy and reduced cognitive load enabled faster decision-making, particularly during critical care situations.
